How to Program BMW Key

BMW Key Fob Replacement

Losing your key fob can happen to the best of us. Whether you are in Burlingame or Redwood City, we are here to help you. Here are the steps to take to use a BMW key fob replacement.

  1. Insert the key into the ignition and turn it once forward and backward five times.
  2. Remove the key from the ignition.
  3. Hold and press the unlock button three times on your BMW key fob.
  4. Release the unlock button.
  5. Repeat step 3 within 30 seconds from the original key programming if you have other fobs.
  6. Put the key in the ignition and turn on your BMW to complete the process.

Programming Additional BMW Key Fobs

Do not want to rely on one key fob after the experience of losing one? Not to worry, here is what you need to know to program an additional BMW key fob:

  1. Have all key fobs inside the vehicle with the programmed BMW key fob. Close all windows and doors to begin.
  2. Put the programmed key fob into the ignition and turn the key to position one. The dash lights and technology should turn on, not the engine.
  3. Turn the key back towards you and remove it.
  4. On the key that is programmed, hold down the unlock button and BMW logo button three times.
  5. Release only the unlock button.
  6. The doors should automatically lock and unlock.
  7. Hold down the unlock button and BMW logo three times on the new key fob.
  8. Release the unlock button.
  9. You will know the new key fob is ready when the car doors automatically lock and unlock.
